O.S.T. = Chris Douglas. (a.k.a. Rook Vallard) O.S.T. is an electronic artist living in San Francisco, California. He has been an active part of the experimental electronic scene in San Francisco over the last eight years. He is known, somewhat notoriously, as an artist who is unrelentingly true to what creativity, emotion, and passion are to music. He is an artist who understands that electronic music can be MORE than club house or rave techno. Similarly, his amazing live performances have never pandered to dance floor audiences.
XLR8R magazine has described O.S.T. in a full length article as "one of the foremost experimental artist you have never heard of". Quite true, in our opinion. We feel he is in many ways comparable to the original blues men, but in the context of our technology and computer driven world. An isolated individual existing in a fragmented world. An artist using his sonic creation to explore and reflect the broken balance between his internal emotional existance and his external surroundings. A downtrodden person living in an uncarring world. His tracks have been featured on several Worm Interface (London) releases alongside artist like Gescom and Tom Jenkinson and on the Spacetime Continuum's remix album, Remit Recaps. He has several 12" records out on several labels including work for Switch and Plug Research. His recent realeases include a full length CD, "Fashion for Passion" which was released Spring '99 and the "Deflect" LP released earlier this year. CD and CD-R releases of his work have recently appeared on Pthalo Recordings. In May, O.S.T. appeared as an opening act for Autechre, on their request, during their recent U.S. tour. O.S.T. will be featured on two Isolate Records full length CDs planned for release in the fall/winter. The first release will be an album originally planned for release in 1994 on anoyher label, but was never released. The second album will be comprised of his newer works.
